There are various types of machines that load material in a truck or hopper to be transported to another location. Here’s the different types of loading machines:
- Electric rope shovels use high voltage electricity powering large electric motors coupled to transmissions and wire rope cables to load the dipper. The shovel gets it’s power via 7200Volt power cable connected to a substation.
- Hydraulic shovels are powered by a large diesel motors that turn hydraulic pumps for the hydraulic cylinder motion for loading the bucket. Hydraulic shovels dig above the track level. Hydraulic shovels can also be powered by an electric motor.
- Excavators are powered by large diesel motors connected to a transmission with multiple hydraulic pumps for the hydraulic cylinder motion for loading the bucket. Excavators dig below the track level. Excavators can also be powered by an electric motor.
- Loaders are tire mounted articulating machines that come in are mechanical or electric versions.
