I began my career operating heavy equipment after attending a technical school in 1971. I spent several years working in dirt moving operations. Seeking year-round employment with benefits, I transitioned into mining, operating the same equipment but bigger. Starting at the entry level of haul truck driver progressing to the top position of electric shovel operator.
Developing a high proficiency on shovels I became the primary trainer for new operators. My skills continued to grow while working in coal, uranium, and gold mines. I was promoted to senior shovel trainer for both electric and hydraulic shovels at a major Nevada gold mine.
My accomplishments caught the attention of P&H Mining Equipment, which extended an offer I couldn’t refuse. I joined P&H as their shovel training specialist and traveled the world supporting their customers. My other duties were subject matter expert, product development, and ombudsman for the company.
When the company faced financial challenges, I established my own consultancy, Mine Production Specialist also known as – MPS.
I have over 50 years of experience training shovel operators to the highest levels of proficiency. This training occurred at mines of all sizes across the globe. I worked directly for mines as well as OEMs. Over the years I have served as a factory representative for every major manufacturer of mining shovels and excavators.
My primary goal now is to pass on this hard-earned knowledge to the next generation of mining professionals.
